APXOR Actions-Campaigns

Actions - Campaigns

The Walkthroughs tab under the Actions section in the Apxor dashboard lets you create and launch actions like tooltips, coach marks, nudges and in-app messages on the fly. You can use the Apxor Product Intelligence platform to uncover actionable insights to create campaigns or launch actions based on any use case, hunch or requirement.

Campaigns

On clicking the Walkthroughs tab, you can see the list of all walkthroughs that have been previously created.

  • The Active tab shows the campaigns that are currently active and running.
  • The Expired tab lists the campaigns that are past their campaign end date and are inactive.
  • The Paused tab lists campaigns that are currently paused.
  • The Scheduled tab lists the campaigns that are scheduled to be launched at a later time.
  • The Drafts tab lists the campaigns that are yet to be launched.

Creating a campaign

Click on the Create Campaign button on the top right to get started. If you have previously created a campaign and did not save it, the pop up shown will help you continue where you left off.

Section 1 : Campaign Information

If you have an omni channel app, select the platform for which the Campaign should be enabled - Android, iOS or Web.

Enter the Campaign Name and set an optional description that can state the purpose, variant or any other details. When done, click on the next button on the top right.

You can save the campaign at any stage using the Save button or delete the campaign permanently using the delete icon on the top.

Section 2 : Campaign Design

Click on Add New Step to begin creating the design of your campaign.

You can choose among any of the templates for the behavioral cues:

  • Tooltip
  • Nudge
  • Coachmark
  • In-app

Tooltips

Tooltips are short helpful inline messages that anchor text to a UI element and give contextual information to a user without taking up the entire screen of the app.

Choosing a template

You can choose any of the following templates for tooltips:

Basic Text - This template is a combination of a title, description with up to 2 buttons.

Short Menu - This template consists of up to 3 buttons with icons and descriptions.

You can manually select the app screen/activity to show the tooltip on or use the Apxor app and floating widget that lets you select the UI element to anchor the tooltip to and preview the design as well.

Customising the tooltip

Container Configuration

The container configuration section allows you to control the look and feel of the tooltip container. You can change the background colour and border radius of the container. Use the dropdown to select the position of the tooltip with respect to the selected UI element.

You can customise the number of buttons you’d like to have in the tooltip. You can choose between the Title and Description format or only have a Description for the tooltip. Additionally, you can use the dismiss outside touch option to control how rigidly you want the users to follow the action directed through the tooltip.

The title and the description in a tooltip can be customised here. You can add text along with any personalisation variables by selecting macros by clicking on the icon in the text field. Choose among user or session properties to be displayed (Alphanumeric values only) and put in a default value as a fall back.

You can also change the text colour, font style, size and weight as per your preference.

Button Configuration

You can customise each button separately using the tabs provided. You can customise the button colour, button text along with its colour, font style, size and weight as per your preference.

If your template supports buttons with their own titles descriptions and icons, you can customise their look and feel as well.

You can set the action on click on the button. The available options are dismiss, redirect or cancel on clicking a button. The dismiss option will let the user dismiss this tooltip only. The redirect option lets you redirect users to another activity/screen in the app or to a deep link URL. The cancel option will cancel the entire walkthrough created.

Image Configuration

An image can be added as an icon to the side of your tooltip to make it look richer. Simply upload an image by clicking on Select File. Please note that the maximum image dimensions are 128x128 pixels.

Nudge

A nudge is a subtle way of grabbing and directing user attention to any part of the app screen. It is also helpful in establishing causations from the correlations generated from Apxor’s Product Intelligence Frameworks. You can select and customise the basic notification template.

Customising the nudge

You can change the look and feel of the nudge and also preview it on your device using the Pick from Preview and Preview on Device option.

You can change the colour of the nudge. (The most commonly used colour is red). You can also change the position of the nudge with respect to the selected UI element and choose to add an animation as well.

Coachmark

A coachmark is a powerful tool that works well as a part of tutorials, improving feature adoption and directing user attention to a particular section of the screen. Select the informative spotlight template to showcase a coachmark.

Customising the coachmark

You can change the background colour of the coachmark and its shape and opacity. You can also change the position of the text that accompanies the coachmark with respect to the UI element to be highlighted.

You can even add a ripple animation or an arrow pointing to the UI element to be highlighted. Additionally, you can use the dismiss outside touch option to control how rigidly you want the users to click on the highlighted UI element.

You can customise the text along with any personalisation variables by selecting macros by clicking on the icon shown in the text field. Choose among user or session properties to be displayed (Alphanumeric values only) and put in a default value to fall back on.

In-App message

In-App messages grab a lot of user attention and allow you to communicate with your users via announcements, offers etc and prompt actions easily.

Choosing a template

You can choose any of the following templates for in-app messages:

  • Header - This template sticks to the top of your app screen and allows a title, description, icon and two buttons.

  • Footer - This template sticks to the bottom of your app screen and allows a title, description, icon and two buttons.

  • Modal Popup - This template looks like a pop up in your app and contains an image, title, description and a button.

  • Full Screen Modal - This template takes over the entire screen of your app and contains an image, title, description and a button.

Customising the template

You can tailor the in-app message template to suit the portrait mode or the landscape mode of a user’s device. Switch between modes using the toggle on the top right of the simulator.

Container Configuration

The container configuration section allows you to control the look and feel of the container of the in-app message. You can change the background colour or use a background image in the container. Simply enter the URL of your preferred image in the text box provided.

You can choose to make the in-app message an image only message with no text or buttons on it. In this case, please specify the action on click by entering the URL to redirect the users who click on the in-app message.

There are additional options for sticky top and sticky bottom templates, you can pick the maximum height (in pixels) of the in-app message to control how much of the user’s app screen you’d like to cover with the in-app message.

You can choose to dim the background of the in-app message to highlight it to the user. The Dismiss Outside Touch option lets users dismiss the message if they do not want to interact with it. You can also change up the border radius of the container to make it look more or less rounded.

Button Configuration

In the Full Screen Modal template, you can configure the image fit to the screen by choosing amongst Cover, Contain or Stretch in the toggle shown.

If you selected the custom HTML option, you can configure your own in-app message by entering the HTML code in the editor provided or entering a link to your code in the section shown below.

You can add multiple steps as per your requirement spanning across different behavioural cues.

Section 3 : Context

In this section you can set the hyper contextual conditions when to trigger the walkthrough for live users.

First, pick the right kind of trigger for your campaign to be shown to your users.

  • Multi Step Trigger - When users perform the defined behavior defined by a set of rules in a chosen order, the walkthrough will be shown to them
  • Event Based Trigger - When a user performs a selected app event, the walkthrough will be shown to them.
  • On Launch Trigger - When a user launches the app or reaches the screen on which the behavioral cue is designed, the walkthrough will be shown to them.

Multi Step Trigger

Choose from any of the listed elements to set the rules. You can change the conditions between any two steps. For example: Users who did step 1 AND step 2 OR Step 3. Any combinations of the AND or OR conditions can be used. The listed rules are:

  • Screen: Pick an app activity/screen on which the user should be. Next, select the number of times the user should visit the particular app activity/screen along with an operator (>,<,>=,<=,=,!=). This lets you set rules like, show the walkthrough if the user was on this screen at least 5 times.

  • Cascade: You can select how the user interacted with a previously shown behavioural cues to be able to cascade multiple behavioral cues across screens. You can select among Inapp Shown, InApp dismissed, In line shown, In line dismissed. You can add multiple properties like the message ID along with its values. You can use an operator (>,<,>=,<=,=,!=) and set the count that specifies the number of times a user should do this particular event for the condition to be satisfied.

  • Client Event: A client event is interpreted on the client side, that is, on your end user’s mobile device. You can select the client event Apx_hard_back_button_pressed to show behavioral cues when a user clicks on the back button on their mobile device. You can also set the number of times this client event was done along with the relevant operator (>,<,>=,<=,=,!=).

  • App Event: You can choose an app event that was logged or automatically captured by Apxor. You can set the number of times this app event was done with the relevant operator (>,<,>=,<=,=,!=) and setting a count. Additionally, you can add multiple event properties to this app event along with its values.

You can delete any rule using the delete icon and use the toggles between the rules to set relevant conditions.

Event Based Trigger

Select the event along with the number of times it should be performed by the user for the condition to be satisfied so a walkthrough can be triggered.

The behavioral cue is displayed to the user on app launch or on the screen on which the behavioural cue was designed. There is no context to be set while using this trigger.

Now, you can choose to test the campaign on any of the test devices shown on the right.

Section 4 : Campaign Strategy

Start by selecting your target users - All users or users from a certain segment.

If you choose all users, you can also select an app event that these users did not do to narrow down the target audience.

If you choose a segment of users, you can select the user segment from the drop down below. You can also specify the time period during which you want to select the users in that segment.

Next, you can target users by their user journey in the app by selecting the retention day. For example, you can show the campaign only to users who are in the first week of using the app by selecting Day 0 to Day 7.

Additionally, you can select the range of the number of sessions the user should have done in the app so that the campaign can be displayed to him. For example, you can create a campaign that should be shown to the user only during their first 5 sessions in the app.

Now, set the campaign duration that specifies how long the campaign should be active. You can specify if the campaign should recur every n number of hours, days or weeks while the campaign is active. For example, you can recur a campaign to be shown every three days.

If you have chosen a particular segment to target, you can choose the roll segment option to show the message to a segment that rolls or refreshes itself over the last x number of days.

Finally, set the campaign display limit conditions by selecting the maximum number of times a campaign can be displayed to a user per session or overall. You can also choose to auto dismiss a campaign after a specified number of seconds of being displayed.

Next, you can select your goal event that you want your users to do as they are guided by this campaign. This will be used while analysing the results of the campaign after it is launched.

Section 5 : Campaign summary

In this section you can get a quick summary of all of the conditions and designs selected for your campaign so far. You can use the edit icon to make any changes to them.

Once you are happy with your campaign, simply hit the save button on the top of the window. You can now find this campaign listed under the drafts tab in the main walkthroughs screen.

For every listed campaign in the drafts tab, you will be able to see the campaign start date and end date. Using the icons shown below, you can edit the campaign, publish it, duplicate it or delete the campaign from the dashboard.

Once a campaign is published, it is moved to the All tab and the Active tab. You can check the start date and the end date for all the listed campaigns. You can also use the icons shown below to analyse a campaign, pause it, duplicate it or delete it.

Analysing a campaign

Click on the Campaign Analytics icon on a published campaign, to go to the campaign analysis page.

In the first section, you can see the campaign creation date, start and end dates and the current status of the campaign (active, paused, expired, scheduled). You can also select the goal event of the campaign and set a time window for conversion for the targeted users to perform the goal event.

The Goal Event Analysis graph displays a step by step conversion funnel of users from starting the walkthrough to performing the goal event. You can see the overall conversion on the top right or hover on any step to understand the count of users who moved to the next step and the count of users who dropped off at that particular step.

The Conversion Rate Trend graph showcases the daily trend of the user count of users who followed the walkthrough and did the goal event.

The Campaign Performance Stats graph explains how many users progressed from one step to another in the walkthrough shown to them.
